Six metres wide, seven metres long and two metres high - these are the dimensions of the fully automated assembly line for SEL door contacts that BERNSTEIN recently put into operation at its subsidiary in Taicang (China).
The subsidiary, founded in 2005, employs 84 people. Close to the customer and with short delivery routes, the company scores points on the Chinese market, especially in the lift industry, and now also supplies safety technology of the highest standard worldwide. In order to continue to meet the high demand for door contacts, BERNSTEIN China expanded its production with the modern assembly line.
"At the beginning, about 600,000 SEL door contacts were produced annually in China. In the meantime, we're talking about 4 million," Uwe Birnbaum, Managing Director of BERNSTEIN in Taicang, China, points out the figures. For each one, the new plant not only takes care of the assembly and laser marking, but also the subsequent packaging for safe shipment to the customer. The aim is to continuously improve and optimise the plant in order to be able to ramp up production even further if necessary.
BERNSTEIN provides the required safety technology for the system with its own products: For example, the SRO pull-wire switch is used as an emergency stop device as well as the SLC guard locking and safety sensors to ensure that doors and maintenance flaps are locked as long as the system is in operation. The housings with integrated displays and operating elements for operating and monitoring the production progress also come from our own company.
